999 Players All in One Massive FPS
one year ago
Yup, that's right. 999 players all faced off in the same game. Nowadays, PC games like EVE, Battlefield and other titles are able to host a plethora of players in one server. Other MMOs have pulled it off but when it comes to shooters, this is definitely a new record.
In 2011, the developers at Pikkotekk decided to create an MMO FPS that could house 1,000 players. They did it and they did it with Unity. The game is called Man vs Machine and it housed one thousand players. It's a simple Team Deathmatch type of game with each team spawning across from each other. Basic rules and basic mechanics but this title is really meant to show off the magnitude and scale of their engine.
Pikkotekk don't aim to sell the game, their vision is to make this technology available to developers worldwide. With the next-gen on the rise and the indie scene booming, they could just pull it off. I wouldn't judge it from the hectic gameplay above. Kind of looks like one big crazy lightshow.
