Is League Of Legends Trying To Shed Its Comic Book-Style Skin?
For a long time now Riot's been introducing reskins for lots of old characters to freshen up gameplay and take the graphical image of an average League of Legends game to a new level. It's been done with lots of champions like Twitch and Karthus and Heimerdinger, and if you take the time to notice it, there's also a major quality difference between Riot's latest skins and its old ones, skins like DragonSlayer Pantheon and Glaive Warrior Pantheon.
Riot's definitely been introducing a new art style with the new visual reworks and skins, and it's actually been spread onto a good number of champions, and it could be spreading on until every champion's been reskinned. When you think of that and you think of the new Summoner's Rift map that's been released on PBE, one starts to wonder if maybe Riot's trying to head into a maturer direction?
There's a lot of factual evidence to back it up, all the reskins, the new art style behind the recently released skins, and then on more importantly the entire new map that's being released for Summoner's Rift. Furthermore into the matter, it could be Riot's way of bringing it's A game to the battle between it and other MOBAs like Dota 2 and Smite, not because it'd get Riot more popularity, but because most of the comparisons made between it and the others(Dota 2 more often) is that League of Legends comes out way too comical and somewhat "silly."
It could just be Riot making use of its extra income to freshen up the game, but a boost up the ranks in the "MOBA war" isn't that much of a far fetched guess. For me i really liked LoL's comic book style and i liked the idea that the two games somewhat had their own thing going, Dota 2 was more along the lines of a dark fairy tale while League of Legends harnessed a brighter more comical approach. Go ahead and bash me in the comments however you see fit, maybe actually have a friendly discussion about the matter instead. The comment section is your megaphone.
Do you think Riot acknowledges that a new art style could give it a better chance at besting Dota 2, or is it just Riot treating its players well?
