Do you happen to remember what the console wars were in the
1990’s? You don’t? Well before I get into my official opinion about the new
consoles, let me give you a little history lesson about the video game
industry. In the 1990’s, there were two very good, user friendly, video game
systems out; the Sega Genesis and the Super Nintendo. Each system really had their pros and cons to
it. For example, the Sega Genesis had games that could run really fast but the
Super Nintendo was able to show off over 256 colors in one game compared to the
Sega’s 62.
Sega eventually started to notice that the Super Nintendo
was taking over after Donkey Kong was released so instead of trying to make
more fun games, Sega released a brand new console for people; the Sega Saturn.
The Sega Saturn was the first system that could ever use CD’s. At first, the Saturn was a really big hit but then Nintendo started making even more fun
games that people just kept on wanting to play.
This whole situation eventually made Sega go out of business because the company was more focused on creating add-ons for the consoles and new consoles and not more fun games for the audience. So, does this sound a little familiar to you yet? No?
As of this time, we now have a Playstation 1, 2, 3 and an
Xbox and Xbox 360. The first thing that you should realize right off the bat is
that Sony has one more system out than Microsoft just like Sega introduced the
Sega Saturn to beat out Nintendo. The second thing that you should know is that
Sony now has an official countdown until the Playstation 4 comes out while
Microsoft is still working on finding workers to make the ultimate next
generation Xbox console (codenamed Durango).

Did you know that there was an official countdown until the
Playstation 4 gets released? If you did not, do not feel bad because I actually
just found that out too. But do we really need new video game consoles by the
end of 2012? I honestly believe that we do not need any new consoles for at
least another few years. The reason that I say that is because a) Sony has
stated that they have yet to design games to challenge the
Playstation
3 and b) People
are still trying to catch up to the
Playstation
3 and Xbox 360 era. Why jump in and create
the next system while people are still behind?

If a company really wanted to blow gamers minds away, they
would create a game where people can actually be inside of it. For example, let
me put on a HD Headset with HD Goggles that will allow my hands, feet, and mind
to control all of the movements inside of the game. Let me take on the role of
Sora from
Kingdom Hearts
and use a
Keyblade to destroy evil enemies. But no, we have to make more systems that
have wireless controllers and a better screen set-up.
In conclusion, I predict that Sony is going to fail when the
Playstation 4 comes out because the company is more focused on creating better consoles
and hardware while Microsoft is creating more and more fun games for the video
game audience.
What do you think guys? Do you think history is going to repeat
itself like I have stated above?
