E3 Impressions: New Super Mario Bros. U

New Super Mario Bros Wii with a side of “Man, that’s awesome!”

by Sei on Jun 16, 2012

At first glance, I would have to say that this title looked extremely identical to the Wii version title, wouldn’t you? But after watching the E3 Presentation of this title, there were so many things added to this title that is going to make it it’s own game.

The first thing that everyone should have noticed is the new visuals and artwork in the backdrops. We all know that they are going to be in HD but the artwork is so out of this world for a Mario title. I know it may not be that amazing to some people, but that is one thing I am going to be watching out for.

Other things that you have probably noticed is that there are new power ups! Did you happen to notice that new acorn power-up that popped out of the box at the beginning of the presentation? That new power-up allows all of the characters to turn into this squirrel that has the power to glide through the air when falling down large gaps and such. But don’t try to use this power-up to escape your death from falling into holes, lava, or poisonous water; it’s not going to work.

You probably also noticed that they brought back baby Yoshi’s into the mix. The only ones shown during the presentation were the blue baby Yoshi that could spit out a stream of bubbles to knock the enemies of their track or the pink baby Yoshi that could inflate like a balloon to help players float in the air for a period of time. But who knows, there could be a ton more baby Yoshi’s thrown in the mix and we just don’t know about them yet.

But probably the greatest thing ever for this upcoming title that is going to make it more strategic than ever before is the use of the gamepad that allows a fifth player to join the mix. The person that controls the gamepad will be able to place helpful platforms or trees in the game to help the other four players on the television get around to secret areas that could never be reached without the gamepad. How exciting is that? I have a ton of friends that love playing Mario, but I usually have that one extra person that would just sit and watch, but no more will that have to happen!

But stay tuned for when this title gets released because as soon as I get my hands on it, you will be the first to know the inside scoop of everything that is available in this title. Of course I am going to have to invite some friends over so I can experience the gamepad side of it, but that is just part of the excitement of the game! In the meantime, enjoy all of the reviews and interviews that Ozimandus conducted from E3, right here on At7addak.
