Back at the Major League Gaming Spring Championship 2012
this year, Riot Games’ League of Legends
was the second most popular circuit bracket at the competition. This year sees
the rise of a new champion, one that previously nailed first place at the IPL
Season 4: Team SoloMid.

A team consisted of the American Andy “Reginald” Dinh, Alex
“Xpecial” Chu, Marcus “Dyrus” Hill and Canadian Brian “TheOddOne” Wyllie and
Shan “Chaox” Huang. Founded in September 2009, the team hasn’t rose to glory
until early 2011 as their final roster was formed to compete DreamHack Summer Season
One Championships where they nailed third place.

Officially announced before the start of MLG Raleigh 2011,
Riot Games’ free-to-play has been picking up the pace at becoming the second
most popular title on the circuit, with huge teams competing for the win,
including Epik Gaming, Curse Gaming and Counter Logic Gaming.

Even though all-time favorite, European based team FnaticRC
and SK Gaming were present, Team SoloMid cruised their way through the bracket,
with a record of eleven wins over twelve match played. So how did they do it?
Well, it all came down to the Grand Final, an epic match of epic proportion,
when Team SoloMid battled their American compatriots CLG.NA (Counter Logic
Gaming North America) in a match titled
as the Battle of the Titans.
Although known for their skills, CLG.NA had to enter with a
different team than the usual roster, with their top player Joe “Voyboy”
Esfahani giving his spot to his sub Michael “xHazzard” Kuhlman because of
academic finals.

Team SolidMid went for a core strong gameplay, rushing
CLG.NA to have to wait on their countdown timers, while constantly attacking
and destroying their base's inhibitors and towers. It was a brutal series of matches, and
Team SoloMid destroyed the final nexus, crowning them champions of the League of
Legends championship, and going home with a prize money of $20’000.
