In our newest edition of Tools of the Trade, we discuss the
most important weapon for gun fanatics in Battlefield 3: the infamous L96 Bolt
Action Sniper Rifle.

Appeared in the first time in service in 1982, the L96 is
also know as the Accuracy International Artic Warfare Sniper Riffle, and is the
weapon of choice of the British forces (civilian, police and military).
Often seen on the battlefield topped with a Schmidt &
Bender PM II telescopic sight, giving it higher accuracy at varying ranges,
from wild field of view or closer range. In Battlefield 3, the L96 has been
seen used in so many varieties of tactics, from close counter attacks with the
simple iron sight, or long ranged hits with different types of scopes.
Unlocked through the second level “Creeping Death”
assignment in the game, via Battlefield 3’s Back to Karkand expansion pack, the
L96 has a high damage level of 59 to 80, giving you high chance of a one hit
kill.

When it comes to ammunition, this sniper riffle has a small
magazine, carrying 11 rounds (with one in the chamber). Your soldier will not
carry much additional clips, and your max ammo – without picking extra from
support class – will reach 55 bullets, so you better count your shots.
Nevertheless, because the L96 is very accurate, with the
lowest bullet drop and recoil quota compared to the other riffles. Although
it’s not the fastest on reload level or aiming wise – as it’s a heavy gun – you
can remove its flaws by a good combination of attachments, such as low level
scopes (M145 3.4X or ACOG 4X), flash suppressor and of course the Straight
Pull Bolt, allowing you to continue shooting while aiming down the sight.
Hard to excel in the beginning, you will quickly realize
that this is the recon class’ most valuable weapon in the game, as it soon
becomes the deadliest sniper in the right hands. What about you, fellow
snipers? What’s your Tool of the Trade? Let us know in the comment box below.
