Borderlands 2 Review

Easily, one of the best games of the year.

by Shanklish on Oct 01, 2012
When you think of First Person Shooters, you think of unleashing a clip full of 50 caliber bullets into an unfortunate target and an unrivaled amount of dynamic fun. When you think of Role-Playing Games, you think of the loot. Upgrading your gear and character and living through a story. It just happens to be that the top games in the world, are First Person Shooters and Role-Playing Games.

Combine these two genres and you'll get Gearbox's Borderlands 2. The top elements in both genres have both been implemented into this game and the results are awesome. In Borderlands 2, you'll be exploring the land of Pandora. A land of various different terrains like snowy mountains, rocky terrains and sandy deserts with a day and night cycle. A big upgrade from the previous Borderlands.

With an intriguing story and hilarious dialogue and animations, Borderlands 2 will find its place right off the bat. You're a Vault Hunter on a mission to take down the tyrant who has been destroying Pandora, Handsome Jack. The entire game is open world, you're free to pursue the story missions, side quests or explore on your own. Side quests include the obvious fetching, retrieving and delivering objectives, but with all that's going on around you. It won't matter. Just exploring aimlessly will keep you wondering.

One of the main attractions of the game, is the loot. With so much loot around, almost every time you clear an area of enemies, there is another round of clearing for loot. Weapons, ammo, skins, grenade mods, shields and so much more to pick up. Giving you a virtually endless of amount of variations and weapons. If you're the type of player who has a greed for shiny new things and stats, you'll be looting all day.

Borderlands 2 by all means, is a shooter at heart. With a vast array of different enemies including robots, bandits, wild animals and insects. Each with their own class and difficulty. You might encounter a midget bandit who is easily taken care of, unless he brings his friends to hunt you down in packs then you're in for a fight. You will also have enemies of the same class but with a higher difficulty. A real diverse class of enemies. You'll encounter enemies who have 'healers' who will heal or repair your target at a moment's notice. Some will have different traits, like suicide bombers, reflecting shields, spawn more enemies and transform.

Borderlands 2 can keep you busy for a long time. It is four times more fun with four of your friends playing alongside with you. Borderlands 2 is a step-up from its predecessor in almost every way. Definitely one of the top games of 2012.
